Cover Reveal for the Re-Issue of Michael West Novel The Wide Game!

Seventh Star Press is proud to reveal the new cover art from the award-winning Matthew Perry for the re-issue of Michael West’s The Wide Game, a Harmony, Indiana Novel!

The 2nd edition of The Wide Game was edited by Amanda DeBord and joins other novels from West such as Cinema of Shadows and Spook House in taking horror fans into the fascinating and often dangerous realm of Harmony, Indiana.

In The Wide Game, Paul Rice, on the advice of his wife, is making plans to attend his 10th year High School reunion.  Returning to his boyhood home of Harmony, Indiana, he finds that he is still haunted by memories of that time–memories of Deidra, his first love, and memories of the Wide Game.  It was ten years ago that Paul and his friends watched their day of fun become a race for their lives, a fight for their very souls.

Now, as he meets the survivors of that day once more, Paul makes a chilling discovery: the incomprehensible forces that toyed with them have yet to finish playing their own game.

Originally published in trade paperback by Graveside Tales, The Wide Game was the first Harmony, Indiana novel released, but has never before been made available in hardcover and eBook formats.  Michael recently commented on the re-release, and the expanded availability in more formats.

The Wide Game was my first novel, and it holds a special place in my heart and the hearts of all my faithful readers everywhere.  This is something they have been requesting for years!  Not a day goes by without messages and emails asking me when The Wide Game would be available as an eBook.  Still others have asked if it would ever be available in hardcover.  I am thrilled that Seventh Star Press will now be offering the work in both formats, and I hope that even more readers will now get to see how the Harmony, Indiana series all began.”

Michael is the critically-acclaimed author of Cinema of Shadows, Spook House, Skull Full of Kisses, and The Legacy of the Gods series. He lives and works in the Indianapolis area with his wife, their two children, their bird, Rodan, their turtle, Gamera, and their dog, King Seesar.

He has made certain there are no cornfields near his home.

The Wide Game will be released in trade paperback and eBook formats during the beginning of June, with a limited edition hardcover to follow. Poseidon’s Children Is “Insanely Imaginative!”

Read a Book_Header

Amanda Amaya at I Read a Book Once just posted her thoughts on the first novel in my Legacy of the Gods series, Poseidon’s Children, giving it 4 stars!  Here’s a bit of what she had to say about it…

“The concept of this book is insanely imaginative.  Drawing on extensive knowledge of the deep, Mr. West creates truly horrifying creatures that literally leap out of the pages.  The plot is well developed…and despite the subject matter, it is actually believable.  The entire thing is very well written…I particularly loved the author’s description of the ‘transformation’ that some of the characters go through.   And the character development is excellent.  All of the ‘unrelated characters’ are so strongly developed so the reader will have a sense of confidence to where the plot is going toward the end of the book.  Overall it is a good and captivating read.  I will definitely think twice before heading into any ocean.  And I will NEVER swim at night.”

Spook House Is “a Fabulous Find!”

Ereader logo09

eReaderPerks.com has just posted an amazing review of my new novel, Spook House.  Here is an excerpt:

“What a fabulous find! Spook House by Michael West is one of those Horror books that just grabs you from the very first page with characters you really want to get to know–and some you never want to have the bad luck to run into, that’s for sure!  This is a super scary, and sometimes delightfully gross, horror tale…Oh, and the illustrations…WOW! What an unexpected touch to find in this book!  That spider-dog was one of the sickest things I’ve seen; it was so great! Where do authors come up with this stuff?  I wonder sometimes just how terrifying their nightmares are if they think up this stuff while they are awake.  The town, the characters, the creatures, and the back story in Spook House are all so wonderfully crafted I swear I have just been on a great adventure and I wish it wasn’t over.”

Ginger Nuts of Horror Go Crazy for Spook House

It’s Halloween!   Today’s horrific stop on the big Spook House Blog Tour is…a great review on Ginger Nuts of Horror!  Here’s an excerpt:

“First off Michael is a great writer, one I have been following for a long time, and Spook House is another fine addition to his canon of work.  I am always on the look out for books that make an ideal read at Halloween, and Spook House has now found a permanent home in my must read books for Halloween.   This is a punchy, fast-paced story that layers on the thrills, chills, and scares in an almost perfect fashion.  Full of wonderfully creepy descriptive passages, that are only matched by some of the wonderfully creepy creatures that stalk the corridors of this excellent book.  This is a great addition to the Haunted House genre, and by the time you finish reading this you will be jumping at all the strange noises, and shadows that have somehow taken root in your home.  Dare you enter the Spook House, yes you should, but make sure you bring something to hide behind.”

“Cinema of Shadows” Becomes Most Downloaded Horror Title on Kindle!

My Harmony, Indiana novel Cinema of Shadows just became the most downloaded Horror title for Amazon’s Kindle (Yes, it takes more units to top the free charts).

As someone who has loved Horror for as long as they can remember, I must admit that this took my breath away.  When I was in the 8th grade, I read my first Stephen King novel: The Shining.  If you had told me back then that I would one day go on to write about a haunting of my own, and that said novel would then go on to top the charts, I would have said that you were crazy.  But here it is, a reality.

I want to thank all my faithful readers, and my publisher, Seventh Star Press, for making this a reality.  Your support means the world to me!

Now, off to make myself some coffee to celebrate, and then right back to work on more horrific tales!

Beauty in Ruins Reviews My 7th Star Singles

Looks like I may have a new fan.  The website Beauty in Ruins just reviewed both of my short stories from the Tales of Harmony collection of Seventh Star Singles, “Good Night” and “For the River Is Wide and the Gods Are Hungry.”

Here’s a snippet of what they have to say about “For the River Is Wide…”

“It has that campfire ghost-story feel to it, and reminds me in some ways of an old Richard Matheson short. It’s creepy, suggestive, and frightening in its efficiency of words, but never tips its hand by actually showing you the monster. Skeptics are free to walk away and scoff at coincidence, claiming the power of suggestion, but horror aficionados know damn well to stay the hell out of the water.”

And here’s a bit of their review of “Goodnight”…

”The depiction of the Grim Reaper is one of the best I’ve read in a long time, equal parts Stephen King and Tim Burton, and his confrontation with a young boy is chilling.”

And now it seems they can’t wait to read Cinema of Shadows and my new novel, Poseidon’s Children.  I can’t wait to see what they think of them!

The Poseidon’s Children project also reunited Michael with his Cinema of Shadows editor, Amanda DeBord.

In Poseidon’s Children, man no longer worships the old gods; forgotten and forsaken, they have become nothing more than myth and legend. But all that is about to change. After the ruins of a vast, ancient civilization are discovered on the ocean floor, Coast Guard officers find a series of derelict ships drifting in the current–high-priced yachts and leaking fishing boats, all ransacked, splattered in blood, their crews missing and presumed dead.

And that’s just the beginning.

Vacationing artist Larry Neuhaus has just witnessed a gruesome shark attack, a young couple torn apart right before his eyes … at least, he thinks it was a shark. And when one of these victims turns out to be the only son of Roger Hays, the most powerful man in the country, things go from bad to worse. Now, to stop the carnage,Larry and his new-found friends must work together to unravel a mystery as old as time, and face an enemy as dark as the ocean depths.

Michael West is fresh from a great reception of his first Seventh Star Press release, the Harmony, Indiana novel Cinema of Shadows. His other works include novels such as The Wide Game (Graveside Tales) and a single author collection, Skull Full of Kisses (Graveside Tales). He also has an array of short fiction published, spanning many magazines and anthologies, including appearances in Shroud Magazine, and the Apex Science Fiction and Horror Digest.

Poseidon’s Children will be released in limited hardcover, trade paperback, and several eBook formats, such Kindle, iPad, the Nook, and Sony/Sony compatible eBookreading devices. The second novel in the series is slated for the spring of 2013, with the other two planned titles to follow on an annual basis.
