Synopsis of Straightjacket Memories:

There is a fine line between love and madness, between insanity and pure evil.

This is Michael West at his terrifying best! From heart-stopping horror to the strangest of fantasies — these are tales from the darkest regions of his twisted imagination! All the usual tropes are here — vampires and shapeshifters, ghosts and witches, gods and monsters, mummies and zombies — but none of them are exactly what you would expect…

A dream vacation takes a nightmarish turn when a couple finds they did not come home alone…

A man agrees to a meeting with his estranged wife and learns the horrible, obscene truth of the old saying: “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned…”

An American platoon, cut off from the outside world, discovers an unbelievable enemy they were never trained to fight…

And a man struggling with depression and grief receives text messages from beyond the grave, messages that push him to the edge of sanity…and beyond…

Ten more reasons to say your prayers.

Ten more reasons to check beneath your bed.

Ten more reasons why you may never want to close your eyes again.

About Michael West:

Michael West is the bestselling author of Cinema of Shadows, The Wide Game, Spook House, Skull Full of Kisses, and the critically-acclaimed Legacy of the Gods series. He lives and works in the Indianapolis area with his wife, their two children, their turtle, Gamera, and their dog, King Seesar.

Writing keeps him sane.

Seventh Star Press Unleashes Hades’ Disciples!

Seventh Star Press is proud to reveal the cover art from award-winning artist Matthew Perry for Hades’ Disciples, the 2nd Book in the acclaimed Legacy of the Gods series from best-selling author Michael West! Hades’ Disciples takes you on the urban/dark fantasy journey that began in Poseidon’s Children.

Terrifying creatures exist all around us, hiding in plain sight. Ancient. Deadly. They gather in secret, conspiring, dreaming of nothing less than humanity’s destruction, and their numbers are growing.

Earl Preston knows the danger all too well. After tangling with a horde of mythological sea monsters in Colonial Bay, he has been tasked with finding these beasts and exposing their plans whatever they may be. But Earl is not the only one with a mystery on their hands. At the very top of the world, Carol Miyagi has stumbled onto an artifact from Earth’s past, something magnificent held captive in a prison of ice and snow. Now, Carol and Earl must work quickly to decipher the will of the gods–a plot that defies imagination–and to stop their followers from carrying it out.

They thought the nightmare was over, but they are about to discover that the horror has only just begun.

Regarding the upcoming release of Hades’ Disciples, Michael West commented, “Whenever I write a story, I hope it appeals to people, that the characters will feel real and connect with my readers, and I am so pleased that readers all around the world have fallen in love with Carol, Earl, and the rest of my diverse cast. With Hades’ Disciples, I get the chance to dive more deeply into the mythology introduced in Poseidon’s Children, and the stakes are much higher now. Fans who thrilled at all the action, excitement and twisted weirdness of Book One will not be disappointed.”

Hades’ Disciples will be released in late April in trade paperback and all eBook formats, including Kindle, Kobo, Nook, and for the iBookstore. The book will feature new interior illustrations from Matthew Perry and also brings back Poseidon’s Children editor Amanda DeBord. Cinema of Shadows Becomes #1 Best Seller!

Cinema of Shadows, a Harmony, Indiana novel, has become Michael West’s first #1 Best Seller, topping the charts in Horror/Occult fiction!

Cinema welcomes readers to the Woodfield Movie Palace.

The night the Titanic sank, it opened for business…and its builder died
in his chair.   In the 1950s, there was a fire; a balcony full of people
burned to death.   And years later, when it became the scene of one of
Harmony, Indiana’s most notorious murders, it closed for good.  Abandoned,
sealed, locked up tight…until now.

Tonight, Professor Geoffrey Burke and his Parapsychology
students have come to the Woodfield in search of evidence, hoping to find
irrefutable proof of a haunting.  Instead, they will discover that, in this
theater, the terrors are not confined to the screen.

Hades’ Disciples Is “One Hell of a Story!”

Hades Disciples Kindle

I Smell Sheep has just posted a great new 5-Star…er, Sheep review of my new novel, The Legacy of the Gods Book Two: Hades’ Disciples.

Here is a bit of what they had to say:

“This is urban fantasy that takes creatures of myth and legends and stirs in alien mythology, with the added touch of Lovecraftian horror, to make one hell of a story to read. I cannot wait for the third book in series, Zeus’ Warriors (Legacy of the Gods, Book 3), and the satisfying conclusion I know Mr. West will bring to the readers.”

Poseidon’s Children is “A Great Story!”

I Smell Sheep Header-1

Pamela K. Kinney at I Smell Sheep has just posted a wonderful new review of my first Legacy of the Gods novel, Poseidon’s Children, giving it 5 sheep!

Here’s a bit of what they had to say:

“A great story that held me, it is dark fantasy tipping close to the edge of pure horror. Michael West brought a tale worthy of Lovecraft to the 21st century, making it real and natural, bringing the unnatural brimming beneath the surface up from the depths.”

Hades’ Disciples “is Done Brilliantly!”

Hades Disciples Kindle

Michael Smith, of the Las Vegas Guardian, just posted a wonderful new review of the second novel in my Legacy of the Gods series, Hades’ Disciples.  Here’s a bit of what he had to say:

“Author Michael West continues the story of the first Legacy of the Gods and takes the horror to another level. Introducing a twist in this tale of a battle to allow these shape shifting creatures to take over the world from mankind. This scribe, who also terrified fans with his tales of terror set in Indiana and his short stories, cranks things up with Hades’ Disciples. West writes action that cracks and his stories have a pace that never drags, along with these attributes, his characters are well drawn and his dialogue never hits a false note…Hades’ Disciples is a cracking read and earns a solid five star rating. Do not miss this one, if you are a fan of horror/science fiction and fantasy.

Spook House: “a Fun Story About Big Bad Monsters!”

Pustule Oozings posted a wonderful new review of my last Harmony, Indiana novel, Spook House.  Here’s a bit of what they had to say:

“(Michael West writes with) butter-smooth prose and a razor-keen sense of how to draw out suspense. I found a story that pulled me along the shoot like a greased up pig and plenty of greasy-grimy people guts decorating the scenery. I even found myself caring about the main characters a bit and was quite impressed at how whole and solid he makes this little slice of Indiana feel. I haven’t gotten this strong of a sense of the personality of place in a while. Most importantly, I had fun. That’s all that matters here.”

They even compare me to the great AC/DC

“Michael West doesn’t change anything about horror fiction any more than those limeys changed Rock N’ Roll, but only a soulless bastard doesn’t get excited when they here that introductory clang of Hell’s Bells.”

The Wide Game: “Classic Horror With a Powerful Twist!”

Wide Game Kindle

Author / reviewer Sheila Deeth just posted a wonderful new review of my first Harmony, Indiana novel, The Wide Game.  Here is a bit of what she had to say:

“5 Stars! There’s something seriously scary about The Wide GameI enjoyed the whole story, but I truly loved the ending; that touch of thought-provoking mystery that raises a tale above its genre and makes it something special.”

Hades’ Disciples “Is Nothing Short of Astounding!”

Hades Blog Tour 2014

Wow!  The blog tour for Hades’ Disciples, Book Two in the Legacy of the Gods series, goes out with a bang today!  Check out a bit of this review from The Rage Circus:

“Have you ever read a book that left you thinking that the author must be in on some great universal secret?  Have thoughts like this crossed your mind as you sat reeling from page after page of amazing description of things not of our everyday world that are written as if the author had actually seen them in person?  They must have experienced the terror themselves.  They had to have watched the horror unfold before their very eyes and somehow survived.  Could there really be any other explanation for how a human being could envision such monstrosities and present them on the page with enough vivid description to make it all seem plausible that these things could really exist?  In the case of Michael West and the creatures found within the pages of Hade’s Disciples, I hope for all our sakes that West is just that damn talented!…Michael West has proven time and time again his mastery of the written art.  He does not write a story so much as take you on a journey where he plays a movie within your mind…Action, horror, vividly described monsters, life-like characters, what more could one ask for in a novel?  In the case of a novel by Michael West, you can also expect a well-researched and carefully assembled mythology…West clearly sets himself apart from other lesser-skilled writers as a professional in his piecing together of the lineage and the motives of the characters that creep onto his pages.  While there is definitely a certain Lovecraft feel to West’s work, there is not a moment where he lapses and allows it to be anything but his own. Although his creatures may at times be familiar to us, such as werewolves and yeti, West makes sure that they are still something that we have never quite seen prior to reading his work…My only complaint about this novel just highlights another strength of this amazing story teller. My complaint is likely the same as every fan of this series to date.  The cliffhanger at the end will leave you staring dumbly at the last page, hoping, wishing that you could will more story into existence!  West, yet again, proves that he is a master story teller in his ability to leave us wanting more!”

“I discovered (Michael) West a few years ago and since then he has been one of my favorite authors. I tell strangers on the street that they NEED to buy and read all of his books. This guy can write. He is one of the best authors I have ever ever ever read…I love how rich and deep the characters are. I like how this one lets the reader in on the history of the creatures…this is a wild ride and in the end it will leave you begging for more. I highly recommend this to anyone that loves urban fantasy, Mythology, and fantastical creatures. A BIG ol’ 5 out of 5!”

The Legacy of the Gods: Thrilling Urban Fantasy of Gods and Monsters

Hades Blog Tour 2014

The Hades’ Disciples Blog Tour kicks off with Laura’s Ramblins and Reviews, and killer reviews for The Legacy of the Gods series as a whole.  She starts off with Book One: Poseidon’s Children.  Here is an excerpt:

“I’m trying to think of one thing the author did wrong with this book, and can’t come up with anything…  With action and adventure, monsters, characters to love and loathe, and mysteries from the deep, Poseidon’s Children is a blast and I’m anxious to get started on Hades’ Desciples, the next book in this series.  I’m thrilled to give this 5 Stars!”

She then turns her attention to Book Two: Hades’ Disciples.  The Result?  Another 5-Star review!  Here is a bit of what she had to say:

“This is the second book in this series. Just wanted to warn you if you haven’t read Poseidon’s Children yet. I’ll do my best not to spoil it for you.  The story picks up around two years after Colonial Bay and, while some of my favorite characters aren’t in this story, some are…Werewolves, bats, yeti, satyrs, and many more monsters will keep your hair standing on end…This second book delves deeper into the history of these creatures. I learned more about how they came to be here and why…And one heck of a cliffhanger ending! Just thought I’d warn ya…If you love monsters, myths and urban fantasy, you’ll love this series and I recommend you give it a go.”
